Spirit

Gray Watch: A History and Expose

This shall be an ongoing research into the nature and abilities of the Gray Watch.

Nature of the Organization: The Watch was tasked with policing all manner of “spirit media”, a term repeated in Ounish texts and included (but not limited to) references to “spirit-essence powered artifacts,” “spirit-forged entities,” and “untamed spirit essences.” Although working with spirit matter was open to individual artificers, the Gray Watch had licensing authority and oversight over all such matters.

On the Powers, in particular the Spirits of the Forest

In recent discussions I (Luelenvati) have been partaking, a more clear picture of the various Powers of the Worlds, in particular the Spirits of the Forest, has been coming in to view. This entry contains my (Luelenvati) thoughts and findings on the subject.

The overall catagory of these types of beings, to us an Ounish term, would be ‘Powers’. This includes beings that are primarily of abstraction which share the quality of sentience with Wanderlings but lack, to one degree or another, our free will and self determination.

Nightmare Host, The

As I(Luelenvati) have dedicated myself to securing knowledge of the Nightmare Host, I will record here much of what I know, so that others may be aware of the threat they represent.

The Nightmare Host are a class of Powers that exist in the world of The Forest. They are comparable in nature to the Celestial Spirits. Like the Celestial Spirits, they are Spirits of concepts and ideas, not physical objects or beings.

Hello Cobblestone Road,

Shifting Puzzles

Shifting Puzzles is one of those spirits whose nature is tied to a concept instead of a physical feature such as a river or stone.  This spirit delights in puzzles and riddles and will occasionally reward those who solve them with information.  He is also somehow related to something called a ‘puzzle wall’.

Bloody Cobblestone

The spirit of a worn down road on the Champion’s mountain, Bloody Cobblestone was awakened after a number of wanderlings fell and bled on his road during a battle with Beast Men.  Of all the spirits we’ve met so far, he seems to be the most laid back and was very friendly.

Unfettered Black River

Black Unfettered River is the spirit of the river that separates the area where Nexus is located from the camps of the encroaching Beast Men.  Black Unfettered River has a reputation for being bad tempered and occasionally hostile, though a few members of the community seem to have developed a relationship with him.

Crushing Rocks

Crushing Rocks is the spirit of avalanches in the mountains.  He currently is seeking the ‘Secret of Flesh’ as he wishes to become a corporeal entity of flesh as opposed to his current nature.

The dying spirit of a tree

Taryn tracked down a dying spirit.  Those particularly attuned to the magics of the forest reported that they felt pain while walking towards the location.  The spirit was slumped over the roots of a tree, it appeared to be connected to it, most likely the spirit of the tree.  However, the tree was perfectly healthy, while the spirit was dying of unknown causes.  Ike attempted to keep the spirit alive by transferring some magic to it, and this prolonged it’s existence.  Eventually, the spirit faded into nothing, but a shred of evidence was left behind.  It was a piece of cloth that fine

Reflection of Ages Past

Reflection of Ages Past was once known simply as “Reflection” and was named by a small group of wanderlings who eventually founded the Nexus community. This group, consisting of Mattie Irons, Bumblebee Knight and others (please feel free to add further names as I, Mattie, cannot currently remember who else was part of the group), was brought together by the seer Salid and asked to decide upon a name for a spirit residing in a jar of sand.
