Candle of the Last Light

Lesson 4 summary:

Necessary equipment:
1 copper kettle large enough to comfortably fit a human body inside.
2 smaller kettles to hold several pounds of tallow and candle making detritus.
wooden utensils for safely harvesting tallow from hot oil.
Several gallons of oil. Any kind appropriate for candle making, plant oils often work best.
1 oven
1 candle-dripping rig.


1) Select one living sentient being, for the purposes of this anathema marked works best if you wish to avoid becoming law broken or worse. The being should be free from any disease, poison, or other complicating factors that might kill them prematurely. In this case the fatter the being the better results you will get.

2) Strip and bind the being.

Note: During this entire process from here on out one must maintain a steady eye upon the being’s vital signs and make sure that the being is alive for all steps, stopping to heal them as necessary. This may need to be done several hundred times throughout the process.

3) Sew the major arteries that lead to the lower extremities and out to the arms back in upon themselves.

4) Slice the arms and legs into circular flaps between ½-1 inch in length. The cuts should go down to but not penetrate the bones. When the process is done the limbs should each resemble something like a loaf of sliced bread with a large bone through the center to keep the bread in place. Note, as/after this is done you may have to manually work the heart and lungs of the for them until the shock wears off.

5) Pre-heat the oil to where it is hot but not boiling.

6) Place the being inside the pot. The muscles, organs, and fat will slowly dissolve. Remove water and liquids as they appear. Remove the tallow as it gathers in usable amounts, Repeat until no more tallow comes off of the body. You will need to remove the being from the oil and heal them as necessary to keep them alive throughout this whole process. Place them back in the oil when healed. This process may take more than 24 Hours.

7)Dip candles using the candle making rig and collected tallow. The candles made should be large enough to burned for at least 15 minutes.

Someone who is present from the time the candle is lit and through to the time when burns out naturally will find themselves automatically booned should they die and see the gate keeper before the next time they have supper. The range of effective distance and number of beings affected by this are currently unknown.

Extrapolation: In the interests of disclosure I [Marcus] will go into some of the theory and possible engineering a good understanding of the metaphysics of the candle opens up. Thanatologically and Essentially based principles have been distilled into a physical form and are able to be disseminated en masse to a large group of beings. This means that it is now in theory also possible to lay to rest large numbers of restless souls, as well as preemptively ensure that those still living are incapable of rising as hungry dead being laid to rest/oblivion or are incapable of ever achieving such peace. Furthermore it is now also theorized that one can use this to affect large groups of undead in other ways (IE weakening them with poison, creating a contagion that can affect only the undead, essential energy that can bolster or pacify them) depending upon the body used and the treatment it is given before hand. It may also be possible to use this process to transmute substances which cannot affect one to affect both (example: hallucinogen). Given this property it opens up a wide array of further possibilities requiring a great deal more research such as a way to physically cross worlds non-magically while still living and possibly enter hell. Additionally the use of other media opens u even more possibilities. Current items for possible media investigation include bamboo, mushrooms, and the metal flowers.
