Oun is a beautiful world. You may have hear your “Household God” refer to it as the Forest of Doors. Sages tell us that it really was once a forest until the Grey Watch tamed the land. Now, it is the most important world of all. It connects other nearby worlds to on another. Because each world is different, each world offers something unique to Oun. Can you think of some things you buy that come from the Outer Worlds?
There are “Nine Great Worlds” that are connected to Oun and each has their own people. The Sidhe of the Arboreal Halls speak to trees. The Aesir of the Blissful Aether fly from one cloud to another. The people of the Cosmopolitus enjoy spending time at their museums and opera houses. The tall fold of the Lair of Giants seem scary when you see them in their home world, but the Gates make them the same size as you and I in Oun. The many technicians of the Machine Heart keep the inner workings running smoothly. There are many different people living in the Mysterious Islands and no two islands are the same. The satyrs and centaurs of the Pastoral Hills spend their days in leisure. The people of the Plains of the Endless Conflict don’t get along with one another, buth they like it that way! The people of the Transcendent Spheres are very different from one another and the Lunatics are different from one day to the next!
Some worlds are quite large, like the Transcendant Spheres (Note: How it was spelled in the book) and the Blissful Aether. There are a lot of things there! The more complex a world, the bigger it is. Some worlds are very small because they have very little there. Small worlds are called “Splinter Worlds” because they are much smaller compared to the “Outer Worlds”. The Seas of Madness are only a few miles across. The Ecstatic Ballroom is no bigger than your school! Some worlds are close to Oun and connect frequently. Others are very distant and do not often connect. Some worlds are so distant that they cannot connect at all. Have you heard of any distant worlds?
The World-Striders are people who manipulate the nature of worlds to improve them. They add or subtract elements to make specific changes. The World-Striders have been around since the beginning of Oun and will continue to aid the world for all eternity. Their creed is “Goodness in every Change.” Many of the household products you enjoy are the result of the World-Striders alterations to one of the “Nine Great Worlds”. Can you name any other ways the World-Striders help people?
Every world is different! Lets all give thanks to our world! Without the Grey Watch or the World Striders (Note: hyphen was not used here.), the Spires of Oun would not be as beautiful and safe. What a wonderful world we live in!
