On the Good Sense and Rightness of the Articles of Constitution
I agreed to participate in this endeavor for a number of reasons. The first and foremost was that I felt that the Articles of Constitution were the best, most well thought out and viable proposal for the purpose of the organization, representation and betterment of Nexus put forth to date.
One of the Council’s greatest strengths is that it is a purely voluntary organization. Anyone who does not wish to be associated with the Council or abide by its mandates is in no way compelled to do so, even if they dwell in the town of Nexus. It is a true coalition of the willing that claims no authority over any who does not wish to place themselves under the purview of the Council.
The Council is an organization that promises to offer its members tremendous benefits. By electing a cabinet of capable, knowledgeable and respected Cabinet of officials who pledge to use the authority vested in them to the betterment of the Member-Citizens, we will be capable of utilizing our collective strength in an efficient and organized manner, achieving goals and greatness that we could not grasp without such coordination.
Through the Council, the people of Nexus have a chance for true, legitimate representation in the growing political environment of the Forest. The Council can enact binding agreements and treaties with other political entities that are not subject to the shifting allegiances of the moment. Member-Citizenship in the Council will give you the security to know definitively where you stand in the political dynamic of the Forest.
The Council is a wonderful tool for creating lucrative trade agreements that benefit Member-Citizens. Using the Councils reputation and organizational faculties, contract for work, trade of goods and information and all other manner of lucrative endeavors can be arranged. Member-Citizenship will grant access to opportunities for trade and profit that will be unmatched outside of the Council.
The representation the Council offers does not only apply outside the borders of the town. Member-Citizens of the Council will have a legitimate authority to bring irreconcilable grievances to that can bring definitive resolution to issues. No longer must the town rely solely on the Rule of Might, for the Council provides an objective, non-partial Rule of Law to Nexus.
The Council of Nexus is set up to achieve its goals with the bear minimum of interference in the lives and livelihood of its Member-Citizens as possible. The provisions put in place authorizing the Council to conscript the service and resources of the Member-Citizenship are fair, minimal and subject to appeal and oversight. Member-Citizens are by and large free to associate, assist and collaborate with non-Members in and outside of Nexus as they see fit with rare and well justified exceptions. Nexus has always operated under the principle that all who come in peace to the town can expect to be treated honorably, and the Council has no intent to change that. Nexus also has the reputation as fierce defenders of the lives and wellbeing of its dwellers and the Council seeks only to enhance that reputation through greater cooperation and efficiency.
This effort may very well fail. It might even become an agent of harm in the Forest and in the worlds beyond. All things are possible, and cycles of incredible subtly and unpredictability can bring what was intended to be a force for good into being a force for terrible evil. But I do not believe this will happen to the Council of Nexus. I believe that the Articles of Constitution are sound, based on solid reason and strong ethics. I believe the cycles of the Forest will not erode or corrupt the Council into a false thing that betrays its purpose, but carry it and the town of Nexus to greatness and prosperity. I ask each free being who reads these documents to give the Council the chance to achieve this grand purpose by adding your signature to the Constitution and participating in the election of the Cabinet.
