I Will Go - A Song for Jack of Spears
I’ve a tale I’d like to tell, pray come list to me a spell.
But I warn you, this is a tale of tears.
For with foemen all around, and no respite to be found,
Boldly up stepped Jack of Spears.
And he said I will go, I will draw the Beastmen’s might.
I will drum, I will fight, I will go.
They had fought a battle long, they had fought a battle strong.
They gave no quarter and they showed no fear.
But beaten, bruised, bloody and sore, still came Beastmen by the score.
So up stepped Jack of Spears.
And he said I will go, I will draw the Beastmen’s might.
I will drum, I will fight, I will go.
He said, "Here’s what we must do - we must split the force in two.
I’ll draw their might as you attack their rear."
He took his drum and walked away, not afraid to die today.
And off went Jack of Spears
And he said I will go, I will draw the Beastmen’s might.
I will drum, I will fight, I will go.
They heard his drum beat true as he played for me and you
And they went to war with heavy hearts and tears.
For though no one cared to say, they all felt that today
Was the last they’d see of Jack of Spears.
For he’d said I will go, I will draw the Beastmen’s might.
I will drum, I will fight, I will go.
As he fell, the drumbeat ceased, slain by fearsome blows of beasts
As the battlesounds of foemen grew near.
But they stood in silence ‘round, gazing sadly at the ground
For there lay Jack of Spears.
For he’d said I will go, I will draw the Beastmen’s might.
I will drum, I will fight, I will go.
They donned his armor and his drum, and fighting, let the Beastmen come!
As they won the day, there came a ragged cheer.
For walking softly through the trees, going gently as a breeze
Up came Jack of Spears!
And he said I did go, I did draw the Beastmen’s might.
I did drum, I did fight, I did go.
