Indira bint Malati al-Zakariyya
Indira was born into a wealthy family within Serpent’s Eye. Her mother was a magi and decedent of the Djinn Qadim. The story goes that her great grandfather was the child of a djinn and a favored courtisan. This child, a boy named Zakariyya, became a very powerful magician and prophet. His prestige became well known and the family took on the name. Malati, Indira’s beloved mother, passed away when she was only eleven years old. The death was a stunning tragedy as none of the magi could understand what caused it. From that point on, she traveled with her father along the trade routes. Her father took the death of her mother very hard.
When Indira could escape from the caravan or the market, she would wander the vast desert finding all manner of animal and plant. She especially enjoyed the discoveries of old ruins near the cities. Sure, others had already documented every stone in the rubble, but it never stopped the excitement of finding such a place.
she was on her way back to camp from studying a species of snake when she spotted a puffed cloud a fair distance away. Indira ducked into an old brick village ruin to shelter from a sandstorm quickly expanding over the horizon. Searching out the deepest sub level she could find, the storm overtook the little building and threw her off balance with its great winds. She tried to grip onto the flaking walls for stability, but dragged by the winds she was thrown in a heap through a small open doorway and into another world. Landing in leaves and mud, her skin battered with sand and bruises, Indira saw for the first time The Forest of Doors.
