Mattie Irons

Matilda E. Irons, commonly called Mattie, was one of the first Goblin settlers in what would eventually become the Nexus wanderling community. A mechanical engineer in Goblin City, Mattie worked maintaining and studying one of the Great Old Machines prior to her accidental arrival in the Forest. After arriving, she put her mechanical and crafting skills to good use, becoming Nexus’s first master lumencrafter and inventing completely unique lumencrafted creations, such as the Sliver Dart.

She and her longtime business partner, Heinrich Irongear, were two of the four founders of Illuminated Industries Incorporated and were two of the most prolific scholars and inventors in the community. They were often called upon in matters requiring tinkering, engineering and problem-solving, and both had a reputation for being highly skilled and extremely dependable. Since incorporating, Mattie expanded her knowledge of lumencrafting, focusing almost exclusively on that particular trade, while Heinrich intensified his study of tinkering to great success.

In matters of community, Mattie served as the originally elected Goblin councilwoman for Nexus. While Mattie was well known for being fiery and opinionated, she also had a reputation for fairness and compassion toward others and made several monetary and item donations for the betterment of the community.

Other than Heinrich, Mattie had a number of close friends within the community, but eventually developed a romantic relationship with Ounish survivor Laroshen Truebraid. After attending the final gather at the close of Nexus’s third year, Mattie announced her intentions to leave the community to explore other parts of the world described to her by Laroshen. Her first expedition to the Great Southern Spire was recently completed in the spring of Nexus’s fourth year, and she remains at the excavation site, with occasional forays into Nexus for supplies.
