Perytons

The Peryton is a monster native to the Realm of Castles.  Its true form is a deer or stag-like creature, though as they are creatures of deception, they will rarely appear in this form unless attacking.

Perytons were created by the Lion to prey on the good nature of the people of the Realm of Castles.  These creatures have the ability to disguise themselves magically, taking on the form of something else entirely, usually a person in distress.  They even have the ability to speak, ranging from a few words to entire phrases.  Perytons are monsters that attack through ambush, playing the part of a wounded or other person in order to draw unsuspecting victims to them and to have them drop their guard.  Though not incredibly strong, Perytons are exceedingly fast, with the ability to strike quickly enough to circumvent any sort of defense and, if need be, to flee at extraordinary speeds.  Fortunately these creatures are rare, even within the Realm of Castles.
