The validity of whether all Sword Wraiths will only attack those who are unnarmed has yet to be seen. The first Sword Wraith encountered was, from what I could tell, a guardian of a specific item found in a very strange structure. It completely ignored anyone who did not attack it or did not impede its path towards its goal. I have a feeling, however, that it would have attacked an unnarmed person if they attempted to keep its charge from it.

Something of note that has proven to be true for both Sword Wraiths is its ability to reduce the damage it takes. Even a blow that has the power to fell a heavily armored warrior will merely damage the Sword Wraith’s wielder as any normal strike with a weapon would. This makes raw power against a Sword Wraith much less effective.

Even the weaker version of the Sword Wraith was able to dissarm its opponents. However, the more powerful one was able to break shields and fell foes with one strike. Coupling this with it’s relentless ability to simply re-manifest a wielder until it is destroyed makes this entity an incredibly potent foe not to be taken lightly.

I think the reason why they don’t take as much damage when you use more powerful strikes with the Sword Wraiths is because of their nature. The wielders are barely material, just enough to wield the sword.

It doesn’t surprise me that they can disarm. Anyone good with a sword can do this, so it makes since that the sword can preform this.

However, I’m very curious as to why they can break shields. Trying to break a shield with normal swords is normally very brutal to the blade and makes smiths cringe. There are some swords that can be made to act as if they were an ax and can break shields, but the Sword Wraiths are not one of these. I have a feeling it’s related to their magical nature, but I can only guess.

Has anyone taken into account that these Sword Wraith could be perhaps the fabled weapons created by the Grey Watch? It’s just a thought….

It’s been suggested as such, yes, but I don’t think we’ve gathered enough information to prove anything one way or the other.

I do recall the merchant prince speaking about these as coming from the “Jesters of the Sword”.

We have actually come across at least one sword wraith within a darkened cave during the daytime, so it may not be that they only come out at night, but that they can only manifest in the dark. They will also attack unarmed people if they feel they are a threat, as I myself was attacked by the one I just mentioned.
